2019 EASTERN AREA WINNERS
ANNOUNCED
The 12th Eastern Area Community Chest Awards Evening was held at The Black Rabbit at Arundel in October 2019. Representatives of local authorities, award winners and guests were welcomed to the event by Family Directors Mark Woodhouse and Lucinda Gray. The judges who scrutinised and deliberated on the applications included Gary Shipton and Bex Bastable, Sussex Newspapers; Adrian Barrott, Sussex Community Foundation and John Scudder, H&W Business Partner at The Plough, Ifield.
145 applications were received for grants totalling over £270,000 and these were eventually whittled down to 23 very worthy organisations who each received a share of £24,863. The amounts ranged from £300 which was awarded to the Littlehampton Child Contact Centre to fund the purchase of toys and activities for older children in their care. Higher awards of £2,000 were awarded to Arun Youth Aqua Centre towards the purchase of a new sailing dinghy, to Community Stuff in Eastbourne to provide cookery courses for young care leavers to enable them to become more independent and to Jamie’s Farm to help build an outdoor kitchen on their farm in Lewes. Other recipients also included Lowland Rescue Search Dogs Sussex who attended with one of their wonderful dogs to collect a cheque for £800 which will be used to purchase new digital radios for their team members.
